Gotta get away?  Then pack up and head to Athens!  Located only 76 miles southeast of the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex, I-20 and I-45 give easy access to three intersecting highways - 19 north and south; 31 east and west; and 175 from Dallas through East Texas.

Don’t miss the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center, an “Unforgettable Adventure”!  Explore 100 acres of natural beauty and see flowers and trees indigenous only to this area of Texas at the East Texas Arboretum.  Water lovers LOVE East Texas, and with five beautiful lakes just minutes away, Athens makes the ideal “launch” for your fishing and boating excursions.  Divers flock to the clear blue water at Athens Scuba Park, where underwater visibility can exceed 70 feet!  The Henderson County Fairgrounds offers exciting rodeo events nearly every weekend.  Here, even relaxing can be a thrilling experience!

Gifts, handmade items, sport and hunting gear, and specialty shops can be found in Athens.  With five beautiful lakes just minutes away, Athens makes the ideal “Launch” for your fishing and boating excursions.  Mark your calendar and join us for the 70-year-old tradition of the Old Fiddlers Reunion and Contest, held each year in May, and the Uncle Fletch’s Hamburger Cook-off in June.
