The Best of East Texas nestled in the great piney woods of East Texas. Henderson is named after the first Governor of the State of Texas, James Pickeney Henderson. Henderson also finds itself located at the heart of four prominent East Texas highways. Hendersonites like to boast that all roads lead to Hendersonalmost literally!

Henderson is a Texas Main Street City with a National Register Historic Downtown. Antique and upscale shopping are the highlights of Hendersons beautiful restored downtown square. The Opera House is the home base for the Henderson Civic Theater. Several productions are held throughout the year. The Opera House was built in 1885.

The Depot Museum is located just a few blocks from downtown, and is famous for the only three-holer outhouse with a historical marker in the state. Also located on the Depots four acres are seven other restored buildings from Rusk Countys past.

The second Saturday in November is the Heritage Syrup Festival not a small affair, the approximate attendance during this one day event is 14,000 and growing!

Hospitality awaits you in Henderson. Come and have a great time! For more information, contact Department of Tourism, City of Henderson.
