| Mineola's
location makes it a perfect tourist destination.
It lies between Interstates 20 and 30 and
crossroads Hwys. 37, 69 and 80. At the edge
of the piney woods of East Texas and amid
the lake country, Mineola flourishes as a
fun and relaxing week-end getaway.
Ten
years of Main Street designation has encouraged
the development of a strong and focused historic
downtown district. A unique mix of antique,
retail, craft, giftware, service and food
shops provides a peaceful escape for tourists
to wander at their leisure in Small Town USA.
Stately,
historic homes have become some of the states
most beautiful bed and breakfast inns, each
with its own special, unique charm. Mineola
also boasts a good variety of fine restaurants.
Cultural
activity abounds in Mineola with the oldest
continuous working theater and an art gallery•dinner
theater. A strong Arts League offers many
classes, and Mineola is home to many dancers,
painters, writers, musicians, potters, photographers
and wood carvers.
The
historic Wisner Field Airport and the impressive
Mineola Civic Center are favorite year-round
rally centers for recreational vehicle groups.
Mineola is a designated Amtrak stop and charters
Arrow Trailways motor coaches.
A
recently completed Sports Park Complex boasts
state sanctioned horseshoe tournaments as
well as sand volleyball and basketball courts.
A huge pavilion and a state award winning
