Paris as well as you, the visitor. We challenge
you to "go beyond the Eiffel Tower!"
Major state and U.S. highways will lead
you to the Second Largest Paris in the World,
and to such events as the Tour de Paris
Bicycle Rally, the Uncle Jesse Memorial
Big Mouth Bass Classic, the Annual Chaparral
Square Dance Weekend, the Paris Art Fair,
the Festival of Pumpkins, and the Red River
Valley Fair & Exposition.
Individuals and groups enjoy tours offered
by the Sam Bell Maxey House State Historic
Structure, the Hayden Museum of American
Art, and the new Lamar County Muesum. Quaint
shops and antique stores are featured in
downtown Paris surrounding a beautiful Italian
marble fountain. A Texas Main Street Graduate
City and a National Main Street City, Paris
is described by noted commentator Paul Harvey
as "... a city where tomorrow fell
in love with yesterday and, side by side,
they lived happily ever after."
Paris was officially declared The Crape
Myrtle City of Texas by a joint resolution
of the Texas House and Senate in 1997. It
held the unofficial title since 1936 when,
in honor of the Texas Centennial, A.G. Pat
Mayse began selling the shrub across the
counter of the local newspaper. Since that
time, thousands of Crape Myrtles adorn public
areas and gateways to the city with the
delicately blooming flowers welcoming visitors
during July and August. We will welcome
you anytime!
