The cities where "Life Is So Large it Takes Two States." Why? Well, Texarkana is really two cities where State Line Avenue joins Texarkana Texas and Texarkana Arkansas; twin cities located in two states and named for three.

One popular version of how Texarkana was named credits Colonel Gus Knoble who surveyed this section for the Iron Mountain Railroad right-of-way. The story goes that Col. Knobel wrote Tex-Ark-Ana on a board and nailed it to a tree remarking that this was the name of the town which was going to be built there. He "reckoned" he was at the intersection of the states of TEXas, ARKansas, and LousiANA. He was correct on the Texas/Arkansas border but a little off on the Louisiana part. Nevermind, the "catchy" name caught on anyway.

A visit to Texarkana reveals a host of historic treasures, ten annual festivals, entertainment from performing arts to stock car racing to hockey to art exhibits, and more. Must-see attractions include the Ace of Clubs House, a 22 sided house built in 1885 from the winnings of a card game; this nation's only post office and federal court house located in two states; a mural honoring native son Scott Joplin, "King of Ragtime," the Museum of Regional History, located in Texarkana's oldest brick building; Discovery Place, an educational museum for children; the one-of-a-kind Bi-state Justice Building and memorials honoring soldiers of the Confederacy, World War I, World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War.
